Five Minute Friday: Together

Posted on October 25, 2013

Five Minute Friday: Race

Together. That’s a hard one.

I am by nature, not a together person. I am not someone who enjoys large crowds, big circles of friends or situations that require people to be together for long periods of time. I am an introvert, a quiet dreamer, and a bit of a loner. But, as I get older, I’m learning together means something all together different to my heart.

Just last week I spent eight days together with my friend Elizabeth. Eight days is a long time to spend with anyone, and we hadn’t spent that much quality time together since we lived together in college. But, I wasn’t worried or nervous; instead I was excited. Because, with Elizabeth, together means something new. It means that there is someone there to share my story with; someone to talk to, cry with and experience moments with. Together means that I am not alone, even when I feel like I am. Together means that there is a person in the world (a lot, in fact) that choose to walk through my life together with me. And, it’s a good life, made better by the fact that there are people like her that I can journey through it with.

Together, Elizabeth and I went to Storyline.

Together, we discussed the things we wanted to do; the story we want to tell with our lives.

Together, we promised we would hold each other accountable to those dreams.

Together, we spent a lot of time in the car.

Together, we got to see friends we hadn’t seen in years.

Together, we experienced Disney World (all four parks in one day, thank you) with our friend, Auburn.

Together, we understood what is so magical about Hogwarts at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Together, we read books, told stories and fell asleep sharing in each others lives.

Together, we are way better than we could ever be alone.

Once again, over the course of just a few days, I was reminded why together matters. We may think we are good enough by ourselves. And, indeed we may be “good enough.” But, we are better, stronger, more passionate, more beautiful, more creative…just more together.

Loved the last line. And I love the friendship the two of you share. And I love that you and I can be “together” sometimes, too, because I really love you. Sending you a hug! (As I was typing hug, I accidentally typed gun first. That’s weird…and creepy).
