Broken & Whole

Posted on September 6, 2023September 6, 2023

a study in contradictions

Every piece shattered when she fell
The floor covered in bits of dreams
Hopes and wonders and should have beens
No longer able to be seen for what they were

Dust choked the light that tried to stream in
Covered the surfaces that once held happy memories
Hiding the cracks in surfaces polished to a fake shine
Pretending everything was as it should be

Unsteady feet slipped between the detritis of a life
She picked through what was left and worth saving
Shaking hands wiped away the sadness and sorrow
Tears cleared a path through the dusty past

Like a newly-created mosiac each piece added to a new whole
Nothing looked quite the same as before
The lines were not as smooth; the edges not clearly defined
But together each bit formed the beginning

Nothing was the same and nothing was all that different
She still felt and bled and hurt and loved
She still laughed and cried and celebrated and feared
She still wished and hoped and longed and believed

The whole was new, untested, untried, unknown
Remnants of a life combined to make a story
Where she was strong enough and brave enough
To quiet the dragons and demons prowling

Broken pieces mended to a whole new life
