Habits Are Made…and Challenged

Posted on December 10, 2013
This year I’m participating in Think Kit, a daily blogging exercise with SmallBox.
What habits did you start this year that you want to continue? What inspired you to get in a new groove? Will you continue into 2014?
Launch Yourself Fully
Hmmm…At the beginning of 2013, there were so many things I wanted to do, and to do differently. I wanted to work out more. I wanted to lose a ton of weight. I wanted to read more. I wanted to blog more. I wanted, I wanted, I wanted…
But, as the year went on, I wanted less. Instead of wanting to do more of things, I wanted to do less. The checklists and to-do lists were quickly replaced by wanting to rest and enjoy life. I wanted to cultivate a life where there was margin and space for things to grow and change. I wanted to cultivate a moment where I could be full present. I wanted less to do with me and more to do with experiencing the world. So, this year, my biggest “habit” if you want to call it that, has been learning to say no. I’ve been learning to increase the margin in my life. I’ve been learning that sitting at home, curled up with a blanket, a book, a cup of coffee and my dog are good for my soul. I’ve learned that letting go is important. Maybe that’s another habit I’ve been cultivating – letting go of my need to be the one that is always right and the need to be the one who does all the work and accomplishes everything.
I’ve been running myself ragged for several years. This year I’ve focused on not doing that, and in that space, I’ve found the way to celebrate, laugh and breathe deeply again.
